Building Boxes
ABOUT
When Donald Trump became the 45th president of the United States, I was currently studying in Florence, Italy. I was physical removed, but emotionally affected. The protests that immediately followed the news proved of the fragility of our country, neither side were willing to communicate or compromise with each other.
MY ROLE
In response, I created “Building Boxes”. The wall of boxes represents America. The boxes signify structure, stability but at the same time embody the idea of incompleteness or in construction. The dates projected, some more known than others, are historical events that marked a change in America. America has overcame many obstacles, and still continues to do so.
PROCESS
Originally, I wanted the installation to be interaction, users would be able to pick up and move the boxes. But as i observed, most Americans were still in shock and needed time to process. So I put the boxes against the wall. On top of the boxes I projected a video with an audio track. The audio compilation included the falling of the Twin Towers, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the celebratory cheers after World War II, the speech of Martin Luther King Jr., and the protests in front of Trump Tower.
